Easy Access Shower Room for Elderly Gentleman in Wareham

We designed and installed a disability bathroom for an elderly homeowner in Wareham, Dorset. He was finding it hard to get in and out of his old bathtub. As such, he requested an easy access shower area fitted with grab bars, seating and large overhead shower.

The project ran into an unwelcome surprise after we had removed the old carpeting. This was because the floorboards were found to be rotten and in need of replacement, which added extra time and cost. Our installers then discovered a galvanised pipe under the old bath, which we were forced to rip out and replace it with a new tank. Fortunately, we worked quickly to overcome the problem and finish within two weeks.

We supplied a number of quality products to suit the specifications. Safety was the most important consideration – we put in a padded seat and two grab bars for maximum security whilst showering. We also installed a new pump to run the shower, fitted with an R2 Marine overhead shower and handset combo. For the fixed glass panel we installed a secure floor-to-ceiling post for added stability.

After disposing of the old carpet, we laid Karndean Knight vinyl flooring in Lime Washed Oak. This was complimented by Belgravia beige wall tiles in the shower area, which contrasts nicely with the wood effect vinyl floor. Our installers left the old basin and toilet untouched, as the customer was satisfied with his existing products.

The gentleman was able to pay for the bathroom without VAT added, due to his age and disability. A nice bonus!
