The downstairs bathroom in this terraced cottage in Wareham was housed in a single brick extension at the rear of the property and was damp and cold. Our bathroom installation team had to completely gut the bathroom, removing the plaster board from walls and the ceiling, before drying the room with a dehumidifier for several days before they could begin remedial works and install the new bathroom.
Solving the damp bathroom issues
To solve the issues in this damp bathroom, our team installed modern board insulation panels in the walls and roof. They also added a new damp proof membrane, before installing new moisture resistant plaster board and replastering the room. The bathroom was then treated to a liquid damp proof coating. They also fitted an upgraded fan to improve ventilation and a tall towel radiator in matt black to make the room warmer and dry towels faster. Our electrician also installed a new consumer unit as the existing unit was not up to current code.
Finishing the new downstairs bathroom.
With the previously damp bathroom now warm and dry, our team could get on with installing the new bathroom. Space was tight so we installed a curved shower enclosure in one corner tiled with dark green subway tiles. Due to the low ceiling height, we sourced an 1800mm tall, around 150mm lower than standard, curved quadrant shower enclosure from Coram with matching quadrant shower tray.
To complete bathroom, we installed a Roper Rhodes R2 Type floor standing vanity unit with integrated sink, the 3 drawers providing useful additional storage, and an led illuminated mirror above. For convenience we added a Roper Rhodes, R2 Debut comfort height toilet with back to wall concealed cistern furniture unit. To maximise light and the feeling of space in this small bathroom we painted the room white with light grey stone effect floor tiles providing a nice contrast.
Our customer was delighted with the transformation of their cold and damp bathroom into light and bright, not to mention dry and warm, modern shower room. If you would like to know how we can transform your old or damp bathroom into a stylish and usable space, please do contact us.
