Dealing with a rotten bathroom floor

While undertaking this bathroom renovation project we uncovered water damaged floorboards. The damage was quite extensive, but luckily the floor joists were in good condition, and we could just replace the floorboards. After stripping the entire bathroom, our team installed a new Jackoboard subfloor before latexing with Stopgap 1200 to provide a perfectly flat and smooth surface ready for Karndean wood effect luxury vinyl flooring to be laid.

Luxury fitted bathroom furniture from Roper Rhodes

A key part of the bathroom design was the new fitted bathroom furniture, and they the Roper Rhodes Burford furniture we have displayed in our showroom. Burford mixes classic Shaker design with modern materials and is available in a range 12 subtle colours. Our client chose a lovely shade of Coniston Blue for their furniture, which included semi recessed sink and concealed cistern units topped with a contemporary solid surface vanity top in Arctic White. A Roper Rhodes semi-inset basin and R” Crew mixer and click waste were added. We also installed a modern Roper Rhodes R2 “Sky” back to wall toilet, chosen for its short projection to maximise floor space.

The room did not have sufficient space for a separate bath and shower, so we installed a luxurious Carron Quantum 1700×700 bath with separate R2 deck mounted bath filler and wall mounted thermostatic shower valve and riser kit. An Eastbrook Sail shape over bath shower screen with towel rail retains the water but also allows for easy access. This combination allowed our client to retain their bath and have the convenience of a powerful shower.

Lots and lots of tiling

While not a particularly big bathroom, our client wanted the walls around the bath and the fitted furniture fully tiled with half height tiling to the remaining walls. We installed lovely Opalescent Turquoise 75mm x 300mm tiles which were laid in a horizontal stringer pattern. These attractive tiles have a subtle rustic look with slightly varying turquoise shades that add texture and movement to the décor. The tiling also extended to the window reveals which were finished with a brushed aluminium tile trim for a perfect finish.

Is that not real wood flooring?

Natural wooden flooring provides warmth and character in any room, but it is impractical for damp areas such as bathrooms. For this reason, luxury vinyl flooring has become increasingly popular.

Forget rolls of lino, luxury vinyl flooring is a completely different product. Karndean wood plank vinyl flooring is made using several layers of vinyl, and the very latest in digital printing processes. Combined with a textured wood grain effect surface layer, the resulting timber reproduction is incredibly realist in both look and feel. The benefit of this flooring is that is can be used anywhere, is waterproof, easier to clean, and does not mark like real timber.

We are approved retailers for Karndean luxury vinyl flooring, with extensive display of both wood and stone effect styles available to view at our showroom in Wareham.
