Maximising space is a priority for many people when renovating their bathroom. With our experience and the latest virtual reality bathroom design software, we can help customers to to achieve this. Virtual reality even enables our customers to see their new bathroom before any work starts. Sometimes however, the available space is just not sufficient to accommodate desirable features, the most requested improvement being a larger shower.  If space is not available, you have to create it, and that is exactly what we did recently for a customer in the lovely Dorset village of Lytchett Matravers.

Making space for a larger shower enclosure

Our clients existing master ensuite bathroom accommodated a toilet, pedestal basin and small 800x800mm shower cubicle. The room was dated, and storage space was limited to one small wall cabinet. Top of the wish list was a larger shower and more storage space.

Enlarging the shower was not possible within the existing space. However, a large built-in wardrobe backing on to the ensuite bathroom provided the opportunity to take some space for the larger shower while still leaving decent space for clothes. With the additional space identified, our team wasted no time stripping out the old shower room and built new stud walls for the enlarged shower. This included replacing pipework and building new stud work to conceal the soil pipe and plumbing to the toilet and basin. After preparing the walls and floor for new tiling and altering the lighting and extraction for the new shower, our team were ready to install the new bathroom.

A total ensuite bathroom transformation

With the shower enlarged to accommodate an 800x1100mm low profile shower tray, our team got on with tiling the walls floor to ceiling with large format Porcelanosa Madagascar Blanco 333x1000mm tiles with contrasting darker tiles for the floor. Lightening the colour of the walls, previously dark blue, and using larger tiles made the whole bathroom appear larger and brighter.

For a smart look and more storage space, we installed a Roper Rhodes vanity unit in a lovely midnight grey colour with concealed toilet cistern and Motif one piece composite stone basin unit and worktop in pure white which contrasted nicely with the dark vanity unit. A stylish back to wall Roper Rhodes R2 Radar rimless toilet with soft close seat completed the vanity installation. Although space was limited due to a window, we were able to fit a 500x700mm single door R2 wall hung mirrored bathroom cabinet with integrated demister and shaver socket. Providing additional storage space and some convenient features.

To complete the shower, we installed a Roper Rhodes R2 concealed thermostatic diverter shower valve with two outlets. One for a hand shower with riser kit, with the second outlet feeding a large wall mounted drench shower head for a really luxurious shower.  For the shower door, we installed an 1100mm wide Crosswater Design sliding shower door. And to ensure there were always warm towels close to hand, we finished by installing a smart new chrome towel warmer opposite the shower.

With the new ensuite shower room completed, our customer had the larger shower, additional storage space, and smart new ensuite bathroom they desired, and they are delighted with the results.
