Although the bathroom at this flat in Swanage, Dorset had only been refurbished a few years ago it had problems with leaks from the shower, and the bathroom wall panelling had been badly fitted. The only solution was to rip it out and start again.

Making the most of a small shower room

The shower room was small and quite narrow, updating the bathroom allowed us to use a short projection basin and a sliding shower door to maximise space. Bathroom wall panels had been used for all the walls, it was decided that the shower wall boards would be replaced, but the reminder of the walls would be tiled from floor to ceiling.

Our team wasted no time in stripping out the bathroom and identifying the source of the leaks, badly fitted wall boards in the shower. Shower wall panelling is a great product when correctly fitted. Modern products are available in some really attractive colours, including stone and metal effect finishes. They remove grout lines that can attract dirt and deteriorate with time, and if fitted correctly, are 100% waterproof.

Once the room was stripped out, we installed a new 1100mm wide shower tray and screeded the floor ready for new luxury vinyl flooring and plastered the ceiling. With the new tray fitted, the team installed new BB Nuance shower wall panels in Vanilla Quartz colour. The lighter tone helped to brighten up the space and the metallic finish added a luxury touch.

A leak free shower room

With the shower area completed and fee of leaks, our tilers set about tiling the rest of the walls from floor to ceiling. To compliment the new wall tiles, we installed new oak effect Karndean vinyl plank wood flooring. A great choice for bathrooms, being warmer and softer underfoot than unheated tiles, water resistant and very easy to clean. Wood effect luxury vinyl flooring also allows a very authentic looking wooden floor to be used in bathrooms and wet areas where real wood would not be suitable.

To complete the shower, we installed a new Crosswater Design 1100mm sliding shower door, helping to minimise intrusion into the room. With limited space in mind, we changed the basin for a new R2 Halcyon basin unit with integrated sink, providing some useful storage space that was lacking in the old bathroom.

From start to finish the project took 2 weeks, and the customer is delighted to have a fresh and leak free shower room.
