Replacing the bath with a Drench shower tray

The existing bath was positioned at one end, across the width of the bathroom next to an awkward boxed section of wall. We were able to make the shower longer and wider taking the bath out and installing a new 1800×800 ‘Drench Base’ shower tray, trimmed to fit around the boxed wall.

Base shower trays, from UK brand Drench, are a great choice for easy access and assisted showering applications. These solid composite shower trays have a flat surface with no outer lip, and at only 30mm thick, they can be recessed into the floor for step free access to the shower. The slate effect surface, available in 4 attractive colours looks great and provides good grip under foot. Drench offer standard sizes, including 1700mm and 1800mm trays specifically for replacing baths, or a made to measure service for special sizes and shapes.

From hand shower to luxury shower

Previously, there was just a hand shower over the bath. We renewed and repositioned the hot and cold water to the left-hand wall and installed a new high flow shower waste and pipework. For ease of use and flexible showering, we installed a Roper Rhodes R2 Joy exposed shower valve with push button diverter, accompanied by both a convenient hand shower and a luxurious fixed drench shower head. A 1100mm wide 8mm glass Reflexion walk-in shower screen with chrome support bar contains the water, while a stylish 30cm square grab rail provides safety and convenience.

But what about the tiles?

On this occasion, and because we are also a tile retailer with an extensive portfolio, we were able to perfectly match the customers bumpy white glass wall tiles. We simply removed a row of tiles from around the bath before retiling down to the new shower tray.

When tiles cannot be matched, we can simply renew the tiling in the shower area only or retile the entire bathroom. Another stylish and increasingly popular option is shower wall boards. These prefinished complete wall boards are available in a huge range of finishes designed to mimic natural materials. They are fully waterproof, quick to install and are very easy to clean as there are no grout or exposed joint lines. We have shower wall boards on display at our Wareham showroom.
